Brattleboro Leaf Brigade

Volunteer, grassroots leaf collection on November 1st, 2025.

As part of a very challenging special spring budget process, the Selectboard cut town leaf pickup, which is a service many of our neighbors rely on. In response, we're organizing a volunteer, grassroots leaf collection effort for fall 2025. More details below.

We're organizing a volunteer effort to do a grassroots leaf pickup on November 1st, 2025. We need trucks, and strong hands to load and unload them. Amanda Ellis-Thurber and I will be moving leaves all day. Please join us. Info about how to volunteer or how to have your leaves collected is below.

How to volunteer

We're looking for two types of volunteering. (Yes, you can do both!) We need trucks to transport leaves, and people to drive, load, and unload the trucks. We'll meet at BUHS in the morning of November 1st, spread out across town to lists of addresses, load bagged leaves into trucks, and drive them to the Windham Solid Waste District for disposal.

Please fill out this brief volunteer form, indicate whether you want to contribute a truck, move leaves, or both. This is a community effort and the whole town will be grateful for whatever you can contribute.

If you'd like to ride a truck, please be able to comfortably lift up to 50 pounds.

How to sign up for collection

We can't cover every street, so if you'd like your leaves picked up, please fill out this brief form with your name and address. We can't guarantee we'll make it to every house, but we'll try!

Please be considerate of our volunteers, and of the Windham Solid Waste District. Only put clean leaves in your bags. WSWD won't take large sticks.
